Fab 14 Success!
WOW WHAT A DAY! FAB 14 AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS!
A lot of local people seem fond of saying "nothing ever happens in Burk's Falls!". Well, SOMETHING DID HAPPEN IN BURK'S FALLS, on Saturday, May 24th! And it just wasn't something GOOD, it was something GREAT!!
The Almagin Festival of Business, a.k.a. FAB 14, was held in downtown Burk's Falls, hosted by the Burk's Falls and Area Chamber of Commerce. Ontario Street was closed from Yonge Street to Queen Street and many local business owners set up booths showcasing their varied businesses. Charity food vendors raised money to support a local Church group, a sports' team and the Towne Cinema. The Burk's Falls Arts and Crafts Club set up magnificent art displays in a vacant store front and led an "art experience" for children in Stan Darling Park where budding young artists proudly displayed their great "creations". Excited young faces stood in line to be beautifully decorated by a face painter, and local musicians entertained exhibitors and visitors with their talents and sold their CDs to willing buyers. Bakers and Gardeners displayed and sold their locally grown & made food products. Local dealerships displayed their automotive and construction equipment. EMS showed children and adults inside an ambulance, and other Health professionals displayed their skills and products and there were even products on display for our furry friends! Many local artisans and crafters displayed and sold their unique articles. Many storefront owners took advantage of all the extra visitors too by featuring "specials"! A team of horses took young and old on a "tour of the town" and transported visitors to and from their vehicles in the various parking areas. For the little less adventurous, there were busses doing the same. It is estimated that there were about 1,000 visitors to this HAPPY EVENT! And everyone seemed to have a good time on a beautiful sunny day!
The whole community assisted in making this event run smoothly. The FAB 14 Committee sends out a huge thank you to all the volunteers, young and old, who helped us prove that Burk's Falls truly is a great place to live and play. Thanks, as well to those from other communities who also participated and helped prove that we can all work together and show that the Almaguin Highlands is really a unique place to be.
We hope to see you again next year on the Saturday after Victoria Day for FAB 15! It is going to be even bigger and better!! When we work together as a community, WE CAN DO ANYTHING!!.
