A Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization which represents businesses, associations, and/or any individual who wishes to become a member.
A Chamber of Commerce is an organization that acts on behalf of its members to develop business contacts, promote economic development and the community it represents. It works to promote civic, commercial, industrial and agricultural progress in the community.
It also strives for legislation that is beneficial to its members and community.
The Almaguin Highland's Chamber of Commerce, consists of, but is not limited to, South Almaguin (Townships of Armour and Ryerson and the Village of Burk’s Falls) district.
The decision making body, known as the Council, elected by the members at the annual general meeting, will include a president, treasurer, secretary and eight other members.
The meetings of the Council are open to all members although they may not take part in the proceedings.
A member of the Chamber can be any reputable person, association or indirectly engaged or interested in trade commerce or the economic and social welfare of the district.
Our vast area, colloquially known as Almaguin or “the ”, covers approximately 8000 sq kms (3000 sq miles)and stretches north from Muskoka to Lake Nippissing. In the East, Almaguin borders Algonquin Park, Ontario’s largest and oldest Provincial Park. To the west is the Parry Sound district and Georgian Bay. The area is made up of 18 distinctive municipalities that encompass many small towns, villages and hamlets. Anchored by the rugged Canadian Shield the area is a magnet for tourism and boasts wide open spaces, mixed woodlands, rolling hills and hundreds of unspoiled lakes and rivers. Just a short 2 ½ hour drive from Toronto the area has room to grow and is an affordable place to retire, vacation or locate a business.
